Bristol Bears Community Foundation is a registered charity that works with over 8,000 people from the local community every year, helping them to unlock their potential through the power of sport. This June, Xledger is raising money through a 350mile cycle “Finish Line Fundraiser” to support the Foundation’s Bear in Mind and Bright Sparks schemes to support young people from deprived areas deal with challenges of the modern world.

Why Bear in Mind and Bright Sparks?

Bear in Mind is a health and wellbeing programme aimed at equipping girls in secondary education with the tools to build self-confidence and to cope with the wider issues faced by young women across modern society today. Since 2021, Xledger has been inviting these groups to its offices, to hear from some of the employees about their career journeys. The ups, downs, challenges, and advice on how to succeed and overcome adversity.

Bear in Mind was born out of the success of another Foundation project, Bright Sparks, which similarly works with groups of young people in the most deprived areas of Bristol, to build their confidence and increase aspirations. These young people are identified as being at risk from issues such as permanent exclusion, anti-social behaviour and potential into the criminal justice system.

Our CEO, Mark Pullen emphasised: “We are incredibly passionate about supporting the Foundation in their work to support young people across the city. We get involved in mentoring as well as inviting them to our fantastic offices, which really inspires them to think outside of the classroom as to the possibilites of the working world. Through this fundraiser, we can ensure more schools can access these brilliant programmes, and securing the future for both programmes.”

Why Finish Line Fundraiser?

Cycling 350 miles in five days is a huge challenge, one which the Xledger team are training hard for in anticipation of the get-go on Monday 12th June. Starting here in Bristol, the route will cover:

DAY ONE: Bristol – Hereford (Approx. 70 miles)
DAY TWO: Hereford – near Oxford (Approx. 78 miles)
DAY THREE: near Oxford – Southampton (Approx. 79 miles)
DAY FOUR: Southampton – Weston Super Mare (Approx. 91 – 100 miles)
DAY FIVE: Weston Super Mare – Keynsham – Ashton Gate (Approx. 36 miles)

Arriving back into Bristol on the 16th, we will be there to celebrate their successes and present the amount raised to the Foundation.
