A variable cost fluctuates between payments. Utility bills, for example, are variable costs.

In business, a variable cost is measured against how much revenue a company gained or the level of production quality a company produced during a specific time period.

As these costs grow with projects and revenue, estimated costs are vital to consider before green-lighting an idea.
